| dc.description | LIFE-RELICT is a conservation project that started in 2017 and that has as a major objective to preserve the relics of the Continental Laurel Forest. The relics of the Continental Laurel Forest are remnants left over from a subtropical forest that dominated the European continent for millions of years, but which disappeared as the climate became progressively colder. Fortunately, some vestiges of those relict forests have remained confined to very special enclaves on the Iberian Peninsula (E.g. Monchique). | |
| dc.description.abstract | O LIFE-RELICT é um projeto de conservação que teve início em 2017 e que tem como grande objetivo preservar as relíquias da Laurissilva continental. As relíquias da Laurissilva continental são vestígios que sobram de uma floresta subtropical que dominou o continente europeu durante milhões de anos, mas que foi desaparecendo à medida que o clima se tornou progressivamente mais frio. Felizmente, alguns vestígios daqueles bosques relíquias permaneceram confinados em enclaves muito especiais da Península ibérica (E.g. Monchique). | |
